Terry A. Burgess of Fairfield Glade, a law enforcement officer for 30 years, actor of the stage and screen, avid golfer and devoted husband, passed away at home March 9 after being diagnosed with a rare and fast-acting lung cancer. He was 78.

He worked most of his career as a police officer, detective and chief in Maine. After retiring in 2000, he worked for the Justice Department as a contractor overseas for 10 years.

Terry and his wife, Paula, in 2007 moved to Fairfield Glade, where he enjoyed playing golf in several leagues and playing pool at a senior center in Crossville.

Paula and neighbors plan a private memorial service in the spring.
